Update

Okay so I've done a bit more work on the sculpt today. I still need to focus on the general face and hand anatomy - not to mention the feet. Everything needs re working a bit too ... but I'm getting there.

In other news I've started commisions again, I hope it's a more positive experience than last time! :D

I decided I would focus more on a project. I've just started what I plan to be Anne Boleyn. I've always been intrigued by her as a character - and the tudors :D

Anyway I've just started a basic body, I'm trying to keep it simple at first... Once I'm happy with anatomy, I will try to bring in Anne Boleyns features etc.

Other Artist's work

Okay so I'm making a scrap book of the quality I am aiming at. The sculpts below are from many great artists!

So this is the standard I'm eventually aiming for.. I really love some of the detail on these! Guess I best get working haha
If anyone knows any other good character sculpts let me know :D

New targets

Okay so I've definately got a feel for the program... I think I'm not really challenging/ pushing myself enough. I think I need to start aiming more for final pieces of work with detail. I realised that doing a sculpt a day, doesn't really have any rules - and that's my problem. So I think I need to set a standard... I shall start posting images of the quality I must reach. Firstly, here is today's sculpt, was practicing arm anatomy.

To not know what IS an emergency...

So today has been a little crazy. To cut a long story short - we could smell gas... we didn't know whether this was serious or not, in the end we called the fire service, turns out the people upstairs left the cooker on and the house could have exploded... but still sometimes you wonder whether your mind is playing tricks on you, are you too cautious? Jumping to conclusions... or are you not acting quick enough! This is what runs through my mind during an emergency... some people can just act!

I watched a youtube video not that long ago, where a person falls onto the train tracks (as a train is approaching) suddenly out of no where you see someone run, they jump down and pull both themselves and the faller out of the way of the train... and it just misses them! To have such quick reactions is amazing... To keep your senses when you are faced (or another is) with death.

Anyway, perhaps it is always better to act, even if you are not sure how serious the situation is.

As to my quick sculpt for today... I created a cat, I found it a lot less challenging than human characters!

Okay so I revisited this...

I'm going to try an animal tomorrow :D
Here is my sculpt for today... it's a copy of Jon-Troy Nickol's character, I love his work and wanted to use it for practice - hope he doesn't mind! I'm currently following him, if anyone wants to check him out :D

A warm up sculpt

Below is a sculpt I did last night. I was reading other artist's blogs - and thinking about what it means to have an eye for 3D. I mean they say some 3D artists don't need to be able to draw - they can just visualise in 3D. I always think there is a method to art. I refuse to believe that it is some mystical, natural ability. And so, I approached this sculpt, constantly thinking 'how would this look in 3D' constantly rotating around it, trying to visualise it, instead of thinking in 2D terms. Anyway I think it is helping!

In other news I really like Eminem, when I listen to 'Lose Yourself' I feel really inspired.

'Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted in one moment
Would you capture it? Or just let it slip?'

Motivation

Okay so I've been trying to come up with a way to keep me motivated and producing work! It's hard to do when I'm trying to juggle this with other commitments, so to stay on track I'm going to give myself little tasks. The first task will be to do a character sculpt a day for a week in Sculptris - now this I will probably find hard at first - but hopefully will improve - after this task I shall set another.

To start this task off... here is a sculpt I have been working on the past couple of days. Hopefully by the end I'll see some improvement :D

And hopefully I'll try out some male characters instead of focussing on females so much ;-)

Quick update
